Tim is on his way to Port au Prince to apply for our permits to stay in Haiti long term. Therefore, I though I would take this opportunity to catch you all up on the kids at Timoun Kontan (the clinic).
This has been a very interesting week. We admitted Elisabeth to the clinic. She is an eight month old girl weighing only 4.8 pounds!!! The day she came in she was a sight to behold. You couldn't help but have tears in your eyes. She is so very very tiny; you can outline every bone in her body. I was afraid to hold her at first because she looks so fragile. But this girl has amazing strength and courage. Her eyes are so big deep and dark. She is incredibly alert to her surroundings despite the severity of her malnutrition. She responds readily to touch and embraces. Elisabeth has a strong will to live and a courageous heart, that is the only way I can explain that she is still with us. After 6 days in the clinic she is gaining weight, sleeping less and today she began to roll (remember I am a PT).

Happy Easter! It's a beautiful day in Haiti, and we enjoyed a great mass this morning (only two and a half hours long, so a little on the short side...) and a Easter dinner of Turkey and French fries, with apricot cake to end it all. After that, we went to watch Aquin (the home team) play against Leogane in a soccer game. It was a tie, so I guess there were no losers.

We are enjoying our stay in Haiti, working hard, sweating a lot, and learning about ourselves and the world in the process. We thank you all for your continued support, and hope that you have a wonderful Easter.

We took a week off last week to go to Port-au-Prince to celebrate Christy’s birthday, and we had a great time. Aside from staying in a hotel that had air conditioning, and a hot shower, and not just one but two swimming pools, we also had fun exploring the city and checking out the sights.
Woah, you say. (Most likely to yourself, however) Check out the sights? In Port-au-Prince? What on earth could you possibly want to see there?
For one thing, we wanted to see Mother Theresa’s Hospital for children, which is up off of Delmas 31 in Port. Where it is located is important, because getting to this place is half the fun. Because we didn’t have a car, we had to take tap-taps to get there. This wouldn’t be so hard if Port was laid out in some kind of grid that one could easily navigate. If. The reality is that Port was designed by cartographic sadists who decided to create streets on the hills above Port that resembled an upset bowl of over-cooked spaghetti. Roads somehow meander through all the points of the compass, and change names three times in the process, and still you can’t get there from here.
